This assessment takes place at the beginning of a lesson or unit. It helps teachers identify what the Ss already knows and can do. Types of strategies for assessing are:  pretests, class discussions, oral interviews, or a quiz, tests, making posters of what they know, KWL, conferencing between teacher and student.	This assessment is used during the learning process.  It helps to identify a student’s areas of weakness and strengths and can be used to give feedback to Ss, on what they need to improve on and teachers get to know where their students learning is at. Types of strategies to use are: observing Ss throughout the class, giving homework, their participation in class, think-pair-share, strategic questioning (individually, pairs, groups, or whole class)	This assessment is used at the end of a lesson or unit. This assessment covers the goals and objectives of the lesson and or unit.  It gives the Ss ideas what to expect in the lesson, so they know what to accomplish.  It summarizes what all they have learned and if they are ready to move forward in their learning. Types of strategies for this assessment are: end of unit tests, projects, learning portfolios, homework assignments, essays, exams (end of term), written reports
